WeBuySafeFood.Com is a consumer organization dedicated to making the public aware of good food distribution practices. We identify distributors with the highest standards for food safety in distribution(Click Here for guidlines) and the establishments that buy from these distributors. It is simply an added resource to help consumers decide which food establishments are safer. When we go to a restaurant, drop our children off at daycare, visit grandparents at nursing homes, or go food shopping, we do not know how the food was handled prior to the food establishment receiving it and prior to our loved ones consuming it. The consequences of careless practices are dangerous and it affects everyone- restaurants, human services agencies, kids, elderly, rich and poor. This being said, food safety is something everyone should care about!
WABC-TV Eyewitness News 7 investigates the potentially unsafe transportation of food to restaurants. We are concerned about safe food handling practices starting at the distribution level as evidenced by the investigative reports on September 24 and 25, 2009.
We want the public to know, that is not the norm of foodservice distribution and so we have identified those restaurants and food establishments that buy from distributors who follow good food distribution practices. Although we do not know what happens after the food is delivered to these establishments, we do assume that if the food establishment is concerned enough to purchase from a WeBuySafeFood.com member, that they will take the necessary care in their food establishment to have good food handling practices. This identification should allay fears about eating at a designated WeBuySafeFood.com food establishment. However, WeBuySafeFood.com does not inspect such facilities and can not ensure the food handling practices at identified restaurants and food establishments.
